Christ

Christ is the title given to Jesus of Nazareth in the bible. It comes from a Greek word meaning "the anointed one". It in turn comes from a Hebrew word, whose English form is "messiah",which also means "the anointed one". In the Old Testament, it was a title given to kings. In a number of New Testament books Jesus is portrayed as a king, and so is given the title of "the anointed one".
