Easter is the Christian celebration of the resurrection of Jesus, i.e., his rising from the dead. It begins on the Sunday and is celebrated for the next fifty days. On the third day after Jesus’ death (Good Friday), some of the followers of Jesus go his tomb and find it empty. The Christian belief is that Jesus was still alive, and had entered into a new form of life.
Easter is central to the Christian faith. It is the triumph of Jesus over the forces of evil and destruction, is central to the Christian faith, and so is celebrated over an extensive period (sometimes known as Eastertide).
